Osteomyelitis
Comprehensive treatment of bone infections
Management of bone infection (osteomyelitis) remains one of the most challenging problems in orthopedic surgery.
At our center, treatment is performed according to the following protocol:
- X-ray fistulography to determine the extent of the infected bone;
- Sequestrectomy and necrectomy (excision of all infected and non-viable tissues);
- Defect reconstruction using the Ilizarov method.
In most of the cases, infection eliminating is achieved, along with restoration of bone length and function of the limb.
